Lake Eufaula Fishing Report for 3-20-11

Hit Gaines Creek on Lake Eufaula today. Water is warming up nicely and the Crappie are moving shallower all the time. Started out fishing the 8 to 10 foot depth and only finding a few. Started flipping a jig and cork up on the banks anywhere there was structure and started catching Males in 1 to 3 foot of water. Water temp was in the mid to high 60′s. Used black and pink Vibra King tube jigs tied about a foot to a foot and a half below the cork. The Males were aggressive and we ended the day with 45.

Nice day to be on the water. If this weather pattern holds, expect the Crappie fishing to really explode the next few weeks!

Lake Eufaula Summer Pattern For Shallow Crappie

If you love the fishing during the Crappie Spawn on Lake Eufaula, you’re going to love Summer fishing for Crappie on Eufaula. In a lot of the creeks feeding Lake Eufaula, you’ll find a lot of standing timber back up these arms.

Brian has been catching Crappie in shallow water around standing timber during the Summer for many years. When most people think of Summer Crappie fishing on Lake Eufaula, or any other lake for that matter, they think of fishing submerged brush piles along old river channels in 15 to 20 feet of water.

If you told them you could catch Eufaula Crappie in the Summer in 4 to 6 foot of water with water temps in the 90′s, they’d laugh at you.

But Brian has proven time and time again that this shallow water fishing is a true pattern of the Crappie and they can stay in this mode all the way through Summer into October and November.

Not to mention that the fishing can be unbelievable at this time of year. Brian says the hotter the weather gets, the more the big Crappie move in shallow on standing timber and blow downs. It’s not uncommon to catch 100 or more fish in the timber on Summer days. Brian likes to say if you can take the heat, he can lead you to the Crappie!

I’ve fished this pattern with Brian, and I can tell you that it can be smokin’ hot fishing. I much prefer this type of fishing over the Spawn. It’s normally a faster paced type of Crappie fishing and the chances of getting into some brute slabs is also very real!

How To Find Us

Eufaula Lake in Oklahoma is about 2 hours East of Oklahoma City, and about 1 1/2 hours South of Tulsa Oklahoma. If you’re coming up from Texas, Eufaula is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours North of Dallas.
